Japanese Integrated Medicine - Hichibuku Goshinjutsu

Hichibuku Goshinjutsusu - Defence of The Self is the integration of physical medicine and internal medicine to a level of natures attunement in life. On one level "defence of the self" is a self treatment, self development and natural way of life. Whilst also including natural self defence - which surely begins with health, happiness and security!

The Hichibuku Goshinjutsu Tradition

This page continues on from history and development

The Japanese Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition of Japan (formed over 1,000 years ago) includes guidelines or 'rules' of use, which follow the rules of nature and life. Practitioners / Doctors of the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition follow these ways in accordance with the tradition because they make sense!

To begin with this tradition includes 3 distinct parts;

These are known as;

1) Amatsu Ryoho - Natural and integrated medicine

2) Amatsu Bumon - Defence of the self

3) Amatsu Shumon - Spiritual and life development

The Hichibuku Goshinjutsu Tradition

 Has 'links' with Japans, Royalty, Nobility, Samurai warriors, Buddhist monks, Yamabushi (Mountain warrior Doctors and 'Ninja') and "China's" traditions of 'Shaoling' martial arts, internal energy (Chi Gung) traditions and even "Western" medicine since the 16000's.

This tradition of "Hichibuku Goshinjutsu" can still be found within Japanese Tea ceremonies, 'modern' and 'traditional' Japanese martial arts - and often in our modern day world

The Guiding 'Rules' for practitioners

These guidlines are in accordance with natures laws

1: These ways are to be used to help our selves, our familly, our community, our country and the world.

2: The Hichibuku tradition; is not for fame or fortune, but a way of attuning with nature and natural laws.

3: The 'ways' of Hichibuku should never be used like a 'majical show' or as a way of 'showing off' but used to help ourselves and other forms of life.

4: Practitioners of these ways should continue to develop and evolve so that they can help themselves and others. Following the concept of "Gairon"

5: Following the path of nature is the way of natural life

Following these 'rules' in accordance with the 'essence' of what the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition of Natures medicine is, requires a deeper understanding of the 3 parts of the Hichibuku tradition.

Part 1: Amatsu Ryoho (Natural and integrated medicine)Ryoho

Amatsu - Ryoho (Japanese Amatsu medicine) is based on the concept and understanting that we are integrated and that every part is inter related and connected to the other parts (Gairon in Japanese) which includes nature.

Ryoho means medicine; This site covers the more detailed and interconnected parts of Amatsu Ryoho - Amatsu medicine - incluiding the ways of balancing the "Godai"

Part 2: Amatsu Bumon (Defence of the self) Goshinjutsu

On one level "Goshinjutsu" (Defence of The Self) from the "Hichi buku Tradition" could be considered to be self treatment with "Martial arts" yet it has no "Millitary" practices. Martial arts - being related to the millitary. Therefore it relates to natures self protection skills which 'could' include 'real' martial arts - not sports, fighting or war methods!

The word "Goshinjutsu" includes; "Go" (Meaning the big five factors which relates to the "Godai" whilst "Shin" (Relates to the heart 'feeling' of perserverance, dedication/belief and 'to keep on going') whilst Jutsu relates to the use and understanding of these ways.

On another level of understanding;

The Patron 'Saint' of the martial arts, was the 'Indian' representive of Buddhism in China :- who taught "Chinese monks" ways of self treatment, which could also be used to protect themselves from 'harm' if needed!

These same monks 'spread' and taught the 'essence' of integrated natural medicine alongside - how these ways could be used in reversing injury or harm, for self protection. Which included; ways of falling down without causing harm, how to avoid objects (a car, ladder, sword, stone, etc) and how to prevent harm from 'bandits' wild human's and animalls!

Of course a "Master" of these 'ways' can 'naturally' enhance the quality of life and of course know both how and 'what to do' to end life, create injuries and ailments etc...

Which provides the practitioners of  Japanese Integrated (Natural) Medicine with certain skills and abilities which can be correlated with the skills and abilities of both medicine and martial arts - because this development of 'natures skills' and abilities, naturally develops 'enhanced' skills!

Practitioners (therapists/Doctors) of Hichibuku Goshinjutsu are "qualified" teachers of "Self Defence" which begins with self treatment to improve posture, mobility and general health and includes the ways of helping others

All practitioners (Doctors/Therapists/Practitioners) of Japanese Integrated Natural medicine (Amatsu Ryoho - of the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition) learn the "In/Yo" (Yin/Yang) of causing and 'balancing' of treating the ailments and injuries of life, survival, sports and work.

3: Amatsu Shumon (Spiritual and Life development) Amatsu

Amatsu - means devine; relating to the 'belief' that these ways were passed down from 'heaven' (Sky harbour)  whilst "Shumon" relates to the understanding that our spiritual development (Not religeon) is natures way.

Hence Amatsu Ryoho is often translatted as "Amatsu medicine" bringing together "Devine" and "Medicine" because the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition, is a "Devine medicine" not in a religous sense, but - because devine relates to the devine nature and how we can attune to it.

From a simple point of view! Practitioners of Japanese Integrated Natural Medicine - understand both the In/Yo (Chinese Yin/Yang) of creating health and mobility conditions which enables them to 'treat' prevent and enhance a persons adaptability!

The Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition which has many links with both the martial arts and medicine of "Asia" could on one level be considered to be a natural and truly holistic medicine, whilst on another level the "essence of martial arts" because it is the 'study and understanding' of both "Creation and correction" bringing together nature....

Students and practitioners of Amatsu Ryoho / Amatsu medicine (From the Hichibuku tradition) have traditionally been 'masters' of the martial arts. Including Chris Roworth who is a 10th degree black belt (5th level - 15th dan in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and highly graded in modern martial arts (5th Dan in Aikido - 4th Dan in Judo - 5th Dan in Aikido, etc)

All practitioners/Doctors/therapists of "Amatsu Ryoho" (From the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition) are also highly qualified in the 3 parts of the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition of;

Amatsu Ryoho - Devine medicine from nature

Amatsu Bumon -  Devine selp protection within the nature of life

Amatsu Shumon - Devine ways of harnassing the 'spirit' of nature

Essentially this means that students of Japanese Integrated Natural Medicine - are also 'taught' the foundation ways of budo

Whilst being highly accomplished and capable in prevention, recovery and enhancement... martial arts, martial medicine and life!

If you have read thus far? Then we will go deeper!

On a Physical level - "The centre of the big five Godai"

Doctors and Practitioners of Japanese Physical Therapy are highly skilled in the correction and treatments of physical ailments and injuries (I.E. back pain, sciatica, whiplash, tennis elbow, sports and martial arts injuries, etc) because in addition to learning the 'correction and treatment methods' for physical ailments and injuries - They also understand the mechanisims to create these types of 'imbalance!

This is "In/Yo" (Chinese - Yin/Yang) understanding of causation/creation and the balancing / correction in tandem.

Simply put! Doctors of Japanese physical medicine (Physical therapists from the Hichibuku Goshinjutsu tradition) know both how to create these injuries and ailments and how to correct them!

On an Energy level - "The Energy balance of the Godai"

Doctors and Practitioners of "Energy" or Internal medicine, equally learn how to both disrupt and harmonize the  energy balance of our internal systems (Energy, Blood and Organs) learning and understanding;
