CLINIC UPDATE OF THE ILEO-CEACAL VALVE SYNDROME
What is The Illeo Ceacel Valve?
|
The Illeo ceacel valve is a sphincter muscle which seperates the Large intestine (Colon) from the small intestine. It opens to let the waste 'food' move from the small intestine into the Large Intestine. It then closes to prevent waste (Toxins) dripping back into the small intestine.
|
Location:
The ICV (Ileo-ceacel valve) is located in the lower right abdomen - mid way between the umbillicus (Belly button) and the right hip. In a location point known in Japanese acupuncture as Stomach 25 to 27. (An 'alarm point') for the Stomach - digestion processes. Correlating Oriental and Western science!
Understanding:
The small intestine is the kitchen area of your bowel. After food material has been processed and absorbed there, waste products proceed or move into the large intestine, which in part can be considered the garbage area or area where waste material (Shi*) is dispossed of!
Of course this sphincter muscle prevents the waste or toxins becoming absorbed in the body, whilst also ensuring that the waste and toxins are excreted.
The ileo- cecal valve, when functioning normally, prevents this backward movement. When the valve fails to prevent the backward movement your body absorbs waste material, causing toxicity. The tox- icity can cause many types of symptoms and is sometimes called the "great mimicker."
Overall the condition is called the ileocecal valve syndrome (ICV dysfunction) indicating or meaning a group of symptoms caused by dysfunction of the ileocecal valve.
The ileocecal valve syndrome is often found in more than 75% of today's population!
The toxicity caused by a dysfunctioning ileocecal valve produces symptoms in the weaker or more susceptible areas of the body.
Especially the shoulders, lower back, elbows, wrists neck and heels of the feet, etc. Because the body 'stores' the toxins in these locations.
Symptoms
There are many symptoms resulting from ileocecal valve involvement - which include;
· Shoulder pain - Bicipital tendonitis
· Low back pain - both sides of the spine
· Pain around the Chest and heart
· Dizziness and co-ordination changes
· Flu like symptoms - that come and go
· Bursitis type pain of the joints
· Psuedo Sacro iliac pain
· Tinnitus that comes and goes
· Nausea, morning sickness
· Headaches and migraines
· Dark circles under the eyes
· Pain which moves around the body
· Altered bowel movement
· Minor injuries which do not recover
· Aches and pain of the muscles
· Carpal tunnel syptoms
· Sciatica like symptoms
· Afternoon tiredness
· Etc...
Because the ICV syndrome is essentially a condition of increased toxicity in the body, the symptoms can often 'mimick' many health conditions, which despite the symptoms do not 'show up' on blood tests and x-rays and are commonly termed as "Pseudo Somatic" by Western medicine.
Essentially saying "That is the patients mind!" But we know better!
Prevention and Treatment
It is well documented that certain foods affect the 'normal' functions of the Illeo ceacel valve - because they irritate its normal or homestatic functions.
These include;
Refined and processed foods, including;
· Refined sugar and sacharine
· Chocalate and Caffeine
· Milk and dairy products
· Modern breads
· Crisps, cakes and sweets
· Coffee and strong tea
· Tinned foods and bottled foods
· Preservatives and additives
· Stress and Emotions
· Concentrated fruit juices
· Bananas and High citric foods
· Fast foods
· Etc...

Japanese Naturopathic Dignosis of ICV
Traditionally the area listed as Stomach 25 'a point' located digonally between the umbilicus (Belly button) and the hip (ASIS) is an "alarm point" for the digestive functions.
In Chinese medicine the points termed Large intestine 4 and Large intestine 11 also relate to the functions of the colon.
In Visceral therapy (Ampuka) tenderness in the localised area of the ICV are recognised as ICV and colon dysfunction.
In Kinesiology from the West - muscle testing whilst "Challenging" this area of the ICV is used to ellicit if the valve is open or closed. Both indicate dysfunction!
In Naturopathic medicine the symptoms are corerelated to the syptoms and functions.
Western trained Physicians of Japanese Natural medicine, combine all of these!
Our Treatment approach
Is to integrate; Visceral therapy (Ampuka) head to toe balancing for localised correction and improved homeostasis.
Acupressure and/or Acupuncture to restore the energy flow through the meridians.
Nutritional advice and changes to improve toxin removal processes and digestive functions. And Herbal tonics.
